My Story
"Its not where you start, It’s where you finish" says Atlanta, Georgia native SONJA HUNTER MASON
Sonja is married to Walter Mason Sr. for 56 years!! They have 2 children, Walter Jr. and Mia Mason Porter, National Sales Director with Mary Kay.
Sonja and Mia are the first African American Mother /Daughter Duo in the 58 year History of Mary Kay!!!
Sonja has Three grandchildren, Aliyah Mason (26) Stanley ‘Deuce’ Taylor II.(17) and Kira Milan Taylor (13). and a Great Grand, Ruby (4)
Sonja began building her Mary Kay Legacy in January 1982, with a DREAM and a Will to be ‘Something More’.
She was a Real Estate Broker at that time and had been an Entrepreneur all of her adult life.
When she heard of the Mary Kay values of God, Family, then Career, she knew that she was in the right place although she knew nothing about cosmetics.
Sonja dug her heels in and became a Director in 6 months after joining.
She had many ups and downs those first years, and after 5 years of Directorship status, Sonja stepped down from Directorship to return to her familiar Real Estate roots.
In 1987, Sonja received another Mary Kay
Wake-up call .
In order to send her daughter to the University of her choice, Sonja began to build a SECOND Mary Kay Unit!!
This call would give her the Passion, Drive and Determination to take her Mary Kay Career all the way to the Top.
This time she would Enrich the lives of all she touched.
This time she would truly take God as her Business Partner.
Sonja made a promise to Mia that she would pay for four years at Howard University and that she would come to her graduation in a "PINK CADILLAC"! It was "ON" after that!
*1988 she became a Sales Director for the Second time.
After making the Decision to come back to the Mary Kay Stage, Sonja made another Decision, to Become a National Sales Director!
Over the Years, she never lost her vision of NSD.
She won several cars . No car payment for over 29 years. She reached many Unit Clubs and earned many titles, diamonds and made Big Money!
The title she wanted most and was willing to work for was NSD.
Her main strategy was to connect and enrich women from all walks of life.
Her main strength was the ability to quickly read and asses a persons needs. Sonja was a truth teller and sometimes the truth as she saw it and told it to you was Raw.
If you wanted it straight, Sonja would give it to you with love and clarity. Her quick Wit and Humor helped you solve your own problem.
In 2001 She achieved her Dream of becoming an NSD!
The Mason Legacy Area Debuted on the Seminar Stage as the 10th African American Area! With 40 Sales Directors!
Six in Pink Cadillacs and the others in MK Cars! Her Unit represented in the $850,000 Unit Circle and the #9 Unit in the Pearl Division!
Her Next strategy was to build a solid Unit and Area over the next 9 years.
The Mason Legacy Area was retired in 2011. Now The Mason Legacy lives on through the S.O.U.L. Area and many Areas in the making!
Now Sonja Proudly wears the Largest Bee In Mary Kay, the (Emeritus Bee)!
Sonja’s new journey is mentoring And training Entrepreneurs who want tap into her business and life experience.
